Antioch Community Development Corporation "Youth & Mentoring Program"
Our Purpose: The purpose of the Antioch CDC Youth & Mentoring Program is to enhance the skill level and knowledge base of children attending the academy. Also to provide them with volunteer teachers and mentors who can become positive influences and act as stabilizing forces in their lives. Many children in the community were not doing well in school and many were also failing. A large number of these children are being brought up in single parent homes and have no access to materials or mentors to assist them in improving their skills and grades.
The Antioch CDC "Youth & Mentoring Program" will provide a safe haven for studying and learning, as many of our children are exposed to drug and gang activities and do not have a safe place that will allow learning to take place. Many come from homes where space is not available for extra activities and sometimes have two families occupying the same spaces. There are no community centers in our immediate vicinity and most have no transportation to the facilities that are available. The local library is not in our immediate vicinity and would also require transportation.
We would like to expose our children to technology by teaching them basic computer skills. Most schools have a limited number of computers available for student use and the library is not close enough to utilize their computers. The CDC hopes to meet such immediate needs as these and include field trips to further expose our children to cultural and community activities they may not otherwise have access to on a regular basis.
The Youth & Mentoring Program takes place on Wednesday's at 7:00p.m.
Our Goal:
Our goal is to be that venue where children and their families involved in our academy, can be exposed to various activities they are not usually exposed to on a regular basis and enhance their skills and abilities to be successful in their life endeavors. The academy will also be the place where they can receive the assistance needed for various problems affecting their ability to succeed and to provide that assistance in a wholesome and safe environment. And to provide them with exposure to various activities that will help them realize they can achieve.
